Remembering 9/11, 16 Years Later and Trial Lawyers Care.
September 11, 2001, affected our country and all of us deeply. In 2001, the American Association for Justice organized a program to provide free legal help for 9/11 survivors. The program was called Trial Lawyers Care.
Joe Price, a partner in the Dougherty Leventhal and Price, LLP law firm and more than 1,100 of the best trial lawyers from all over the country donated their time and service to help 9/11 survivors apply for help from the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund. It was the largest Pro Bono effort ever undertaken and was a great success.
“As I reflect on the events of 9/11 I always think of one of my three clients who died in the Twin Tower collapse. Her name was Melissa “Missy” Doi. She was an amazing young woman and business executive. Her 22 minute call to 911 became famous for the terrible and tragic events which occurred on 9/11. In fact, the movie Zero Dark Thirty began with a portion of the recording. It was also used in the prosecution of terrorist Zacarias Moussaoui. Melissa’s mother, Evelyn Alderate, was a brave and strong woman. It was truly an honor and privilege to represent she and her daughter. We successfully concluded the case and the family received a just award. I was never so proud to be a Trial Lawyer! May Missy’s courage and beauty never be forgotten!”
