23 years ago I graduated from the University of Pennsylvania. I felt so blessed for having had such an amazing opportunity at Penn that I felt compelled to give something back to the world. In the spirit of President John F. Kennedy, I joined the United States Peace Corps and lived in Guatemala, Central America for the next 2 & 1/2 years of my life. I taught Physical Education and Nutrition to the poorest of the poor in the mountains of Quiche. I gave my all to Guatemala but the people there taught me more than I was ever able to give. I carry their gifts with me to this day.
Eight years ago, I decided to start repaying my debt to the people of Guatemala. I began representing the new immigrants here in Northeastern, Pennsylvania in their own language. The experience has been amazing. Today, DLP has a Hazleton office devoted to the growing Latino community and three bi-lingual Latino paralegals. DLP has become a resource for the Latino community. In 2010, the Latino Alliance of Northeastern Pennsylvania presented DLP its prestigious Hispanic Outreach Award.
