With the advent of fracking, although controversial, the supply of natural gas in the United States has sky rocketed. Natural gas industry leaders are working with environmental groups and lawmakers to make fracking as safe and environmentally friendly as possible. Production of natural gas is only going to expand.
However, with the growing surplus and plentiful supplies, the price of natural gas (although higher lately) has been floating around at near record lows. How will prices increase so that gas drilling companies step up production? Increased demand is always the answer. With this in mind, there are numerous bills floating around Harrisburg with the intent to increase demand for natural gas. One bill wants the largest metropolitan public transit systems to convert to all natural gas powered vehicles. Another creates tax credits for consumers purchasing natural gas powered cars. Another bill seeks to help build out a reliable chain of natural gas service station pumps Statewide. All in all there are over 250 bills being run up the flag pole in the State Capital. Many of the bills will have bipartisan support.
