There is a lot of news today in the natural gas drilling arena. Reports out of Colorado note that it has become the first state to require natural gas drilling companies to perform pre-drilling and post-drilling ground water testing at all fracking drill rig locations.
In Texas, which taxes drilling rig sites unlike Pennsylvania, tax revenues are way up even though actual gas drilling and new drilling rig start ups are way down due to the record low prices of natural gas.
Finally, in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, residents have filed complaints with State environmental agencies to delay construction of a new natural gas pipeline by Tennessee Pipeline Inc. Federal authorities have already approved the time sensitive pipeline project. Tennessee has filed a Federal lawsuit requesting immediate dismissal of the state claims. Tennessee claims that the states have no authority over its pipeline construction. A decision by the Federal Court is expected quickly.
