As everyone knows owners of large tracks of land in the Marcellus Shale Regions have benefitted from natural gas drilling in their communities. Reports today note that the Amish have been recipients of numerous gas leases and potential royalities. This is not surprising considering the many farms owned by Amish families who have worked the land for decades throughout Pennsylvania and Ohio. The reports are interesting and contain discussions on the ethical and religious challenges faced by the Amish in light of their new found wealth. This is another example of perhaps unexpected issues which arise in gas drilling country.
